Montauk, NY
WEDDING

OUR STORY
His Story

I'd been meaning to practice a speech. Of course, I'd also meant to get a photographer to stalk us so he could capture The Moment for posterity. Neither of those things occurred. Apparently it's difficult to hire a photographer in Montauk during the offseason. I was also deathly afraid that I would ruin The Moment by saying something stupid. It didn't seem prudent to practice something when I would inevitably forget part of it and then drown in my own anxiety as a result. I knew I wanted to do it at the Lighthouse, so I suggested we go there and then spent a very taciturn hour walking around with Lajhem and thinking about how awful my proposal was going to be. Eventually, though, I decided that the earlier I fluffed it, the more time I'd eventually have to try and convince her to forgive me. And so once we reached the bottom, I asked her to stop, then got down on one knee. God as my witness, I have no idea what I said to her, but it must have been something like "Will you marry me?" Because what I remember is her nodding, and then smiling, and then how happy she looked for the rest of the day: when we asked the nice Latino family to take a photo of us, when we went to skip rocks on the beach, and when she spent dinner that night shamelessly staring at the ring on her finger. I'm glad I didn't practice. I can't imagine anything more perfect.

Her Story

I remember the first time I met Nate - in 2009. It was raining and we were both going to the same graduation party. He shared his umbrella with me while we waited for our ride. Fast forward 5 years, we finally made it out for our annual trip to Montauk - in November - no less. We'd never been to the famous lighthouse out there and decided to make it our destination. It was a beautiful day and it wasn't too crowded. We explored the lighhouse and went up to the top (imagine the view of the Atlantic Ocean)! As we were leaving the building, Nate asked me to marry him. I'm elated to marry the love of my life and share our ceremony with friends and family.
